Henderson & Spalding, [1929]. Paperback. Rare script of a play presented to Williams's Oxford University Press colleagues at the Amen House on February 8, 1929, one of only 100 copies printed. Set to music by Hubert J. Foss. 24pp. Sewn with black thread, plain black wrappers with red stamped 'AH' monogram to front (Amen House). The brittle wrappers are chipped around the edges, front cover split halfway from the top along the spine after an earlier spine repair with matching black paper. Bit of foxing to the text. Composed while Williams was an editor at OUP, who played Tityrus. Hubert J. Foss was the manager of the Music Department and played the role of Thyrsis in addition to composing original music for the play. Alexis was played by publicity manager, Gerard Hopkins (nephew of the poet); the sales manager, Helen Peacock played Dorinda; and editor Frederick Page played Colin. The role of Phillida was played by Phyllis Jones, the OUP House Librarian and Williams's acolyte and 'Dantean' lover. GOOD. Item #514922
