President Roosevelt and the Coming of the War a Study in Appearances and Reality
Yale University Press, January 1948. First Edition. Hardcover with Dust Jacket. Second Printing, stated on the dust jacket and the verso. vi, 614pp. 8vo, navy cloth, gilt spine lettering. Some trivial foxing spots to the edges, else FINE, an exceedingly clean, sharp copy with tight, square binding; DJ tips worn with some loss at the extremities but not intruding on any of the lettering, now wrapped in mylar. Beard argues from evidence available to him that Roosevelt deceptively maintained a pretense of neutrality while maneuvering for a 'back door to war'. While initially widely dismissed as a conspiracy theory, records unearthed in recent years have largely vindicated his thesis. NEAR FINE / Very Good. Item #509239
