Hardcover. 8vo, black pebble-grain calfskin over cards, gilt edges, gilts spine volume numerals and gilt "NEW TESTAMENT" to front covers with blind rule, yellow endpapers.. All volumes recently rebacked in matching black calf. Light rubbing to extremities, some bowing as usual with leather-over-card style binding, light spotting and a few small stains. Printed bookplates to all volumes reading "Presented to a lady friend to Mary Manners, June 21st, 1867, On the completion of 50 years Membership with the Wesleyan Methodists, North Shields." A colossal font at 22 points, "Double Pica" texts were published in limited numbers, popular among lectors and the elderly. It is the latter, in this case, who was given this Large Print New Testament as a commemorative gift on her 50th anniversary of church membership. The opacity of the high-quality paper also contributed great legibility to the text. These giant-print editions were sometimes issued in multiple volumes for easier handling, as even just a solo Testament in this font size makes for quite a hefty tome.
