A collection of scored hymns for the immediate use of the Emory Grove Camp Meetings, a permanent revival location outside of Baltimore. Founded in 1868 under the auspices of the Methodist Episcopal Churches of Baltimore, Emory Grove continues to operate a camp/retreat ministry today. The hymnal saw wider distribution in Methodist circles, and offers a number of original and unique-to-this-edition hymns by Fanny Crosby, Wm. Kirkpatrick, and many others arranged by publisher John Hood.
"Realizing the need of a collection of hymns for use by the Emory Grove camp meetings, a committee of musical directors from the churches of the varied branched of Methodism in Baltimore was selected to compile such a work. . . . The aim of the committee has been to glean from all fields the choicest flowers of sacred song, and to present to the church a bouquet of hymns alike grateful to congregation and school, prayer meeting and the social circle" – from the Preface.
