Theodore was a companion and friend of Chrysostom and the pre-eminent exemplar of the Antiochene school of hermeneutics. His magnificent legacy as a theologian and exegete were obscured by the charge of Nestorianism. Most important among the multiple 20th century Mopsuestia mss discoveries was his Catechetical Homilies, which survives only in this early Syriac translation. While the final trajectory of his Biblicist Christology was rejected, his emphasis on the humanity of Jesus was a major influence in the formulations of Chalcedon.
